This article describes how to use the translation function in chats.
When communicating with colleagues who speak different languages, you can use the translation function to translate message into the set target language, making it easier for everyone to understand each other across the language barrier. Currently, provides translation for Chinese, English, Japanese, and Thai.
II. How to use
1. Set target language
On the mobile client, click the profile picture in the top-right corner of the homepage. In the menu bar on the left, click System Settings - Language and Time - Translate messages to. On this page, you can enable or disable auto translations and set the message types to automatically translate, the target language, and the post-translation page display.
On the desktop, click the profile picture at the top of the homepage and go to Settings - Language and Time - Translate messages to. In this option, set the language to translate messages to. The system currently supports Chinese, English, Japanese, and Thai.
2. Manual message translation
After you receive a text message, you can use the manual translation function to translate the message into the set target language.
- •On the desktop, click the "..." icon to the right of the message and select Translate. On the mobile client, long-press a message and click Translate.
- •To see the original text, click the A button in the bottom-right corner of the message bubble. You can also click "…" and then select Show Original.
If there are many text messages in a conversation in an unfamiliar language, you can enable automatic translation for the conversation. Received messages will be automatically translated into the target language for display. This reduces the time cost of manual translation.
- •At the bottom of the conversation sidebar, click Settings - Auto-translation.
Q: What message types can be translated?
A: The following message types are currently supported: normal text messages, text content in rich text messages, and text content in combined and forwarded messages.
Q: What message types cannot be translated?
A: Currently, the following message types cannot be translated: voice messages, message cards, images, and documents.
Q: Do I have to be connected to the Internet to use the translation function?
A: Yes. If you are offline, messages will remain in translating status and the translated text will not be displayed.
Q: If I forward a translated message to another person, will they receive the original or translated text?
A: Only the original text is forwarded instead of the translated text when you forward messages or combined messages.
